Today we will have Katia Tynan from the City of Vancouver's Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction team speaking to the briefs and fielding questions.

Thank-you for the feedback. I have not made it through all of your comments quite yet and I won't be able to patch all the issues but I will try to address as many as possible.

Group deliverables and the rubric

I heard a lot of feedback about group deliverables and the rubric. We will take another pass at the rubric in our next class and I will likely have some better approaches/clarifications for it once I have finished grading P1.

1-on-1s availability

I will be available for 1-on-1s at the following times:

• Tuesday, February 17 from 1:00-3:00pm, 7:30-9:00pm
• Wednesday, February 18 from 7:00-9:00pm
• Thursday, February 19 from 9:30-2:30pm

We are going to talk about two pieces of communication today:

1. Communication within the UX team
2. Communication outside the UX team

How many of you have had feedback that you have refrained from sharing with others in the past? Why was that the case?

Conflict

Conflict is necessary for your team to work effectively, otherwise we end up with unspoken ideas, unvoiced disagreements and simmering resentments. Teams that feel safe disagreeing outperform other teams.

Proactive approaches

• "Clear is kind. Unclear is Unkind" (Brené Brown)
• Focus on issues not people.
• Listening actively.

Engaging in conflict

If you are in a conflict your goal is to try and find a path forward:

• Understanding what is the conflict.
• Expressing your position in constructive ways.
• Clarify other positions.
• Remaining calm.

Best group ever

Think to when you have had the most 'ideal' group for a project. What made it the 'best' group? Why was the outcome the 'best'?

Trust

Think to when you had a team that you could 'trust'. What made you 'trust' that team?
