Exploring Type (due Sept 27)

This is old content

Andrew is not currently teaching IAT-102. This material is left online for reference only.

Instructions

Find five examples of typography in your day-to-day life (i.e. in ads, signage, websites, etc, that you see). For each example of typography you will sketch out a medium-fidelity sketch to try and re-create the type in your sketchbook. A reminder that medium-fidelity should have more refined and clearer-to-read lines, as we are not sketching to generate lots of ideas. For each sketch, write down next to it:

A sketch of branding from a clamp company, with some text indicating a likely classification and associations the font makes

Sketch of a typeface, with notes indicating where it is from, an attempted classification, and what it makes you think or feel.

Submission

Once done, please scan or photograph your sketches for submission as one JPG file. You will be graded on completing the number of sketches and notes required and the fidelity of your sketches (they should be medium fidelity).

You are allowed to use this exercise as part of your project.

Your submission is due to Canvas before 8:00am on Sept 27.

Sketches may be shared

Please note that sketches may be shared and discussed in class.

Please avoid putting your name on your submission as a result. If you make a mistake with your submission, feel free to resubmit before the deadline.
